KBR Honored With CURT Workforce Development Award

KBR has been recognized for its OnTrack Leadership Academy.

Houston — Nov. 9

KBR announced it has been awarded the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) Workforce Development Award for its OnTrack Leadership Academy, a four-tier progression program that identifies high-potential NCCER Certified Plus Journeymen and provides a clear path of advancement through training, mentoring support and pay increases.

KBR is a global engineering, construction and services company supporting the energy, hydrocarbon, government services, minerals, civil infrastructure, power, industrial and commercial markets.

Each year, the CURT Award recognizes organizations for extraordinary, exemplary and innovative workforce development programs that encourage people to pursue careers in construction, develops those recruits to their maximum potential and retains those individuals to ensure the sustainability of a qualified workforce.

KBR’s OnTrack program has established a succession plan for developing and promoting future leaders from within the company. For nearly four years, the program has provided industry-relevant training to aspiring participants in the construction industry, and has required veteran supervisors and journeymen to transfer their knowledge and skills to the next generation by serving as mentors and instructors to new recruits.

The program begins with teaching job site safety and progresses through objectives such as team building, work planning, employee relations and cost controls. Throughout their academy experience, trainees are paired with a mentor who provides them with examples of how they have drawn on their training and personal experiences to become better managers.

Since the program’s inception, more than 641 employees have graduated to one or more tiers within the academy, allowing them to advance into a higher wage bracket and serve in a leadership capacity on a KBR project.

KBR was also a recipient of a 2009 CURT award for its skilled construction trade program, QuickTrain, which provides candidates an opportunity to acquire the skills needed to enter the construction industry, and sets the stage for continued development through training.
